Podere Mezzastrada

A farm immersed in art, culture and history in the heart of Tuscany

The Podere Mezzastrada, nestled in the lush Tuscan countryside, is the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday to be savored. The complex stands on a hill in the Certaldo wine area, home of Chianti wine.

The Podere Mezzastrada is just 1 km from Fiano and offers its guests 20 holiday apartments built in the typical Tuscan style and distributed in four splendid buildings, all included in the environment, in order to be in total harmony with the surrounding nature.

The holiday apartments of Podere Mezzastrada are finely restored and equipped with all comforts, but every restoration has been carried out with respect for tradition. Set in the manicured gardens of Podere Mezzastrada, the apartments are at the center of a fairytale setting while the splendid swimming pool with breathtaking views over the valley completes the work.

A curiosity between history and legend : in the 18th century Podere Mezzastrada was part of the Castle of Santa Maria Novella which, still today, watches over these lands. The origin of the name of the farm instead refers to an old and singular legend linked to a brave errant knight.

The Legend

Legend has it that a brave knight, tired of court life, left the cold north in search of a luxuriant land between Florence and Siena, cradled by gentle hills and populated by simple and hardworking people.

Having crossed steep ridges, impetuous streams of water and dense woods, the knight decided to spend the night under a large oak tree near Florence. Awakened by the sun and the song of the birds, the knight found himself in front of a farmer who stared at him curiously.

The knight illustrated the land he was looking for and asked in which direction he could find it. The man stared at him and then replied "I don’t know what you are looking for, Messere, but here you are halfway" meaning that he was halfway between Florence and Siena.

So it was that the knight looked around and, enraptured by the beauty of those rolling hills and the surrounding countryside, decided that his journey had come to an end and called his new, splendid home Mezzastrada.
